Helena Sunset. © Jason Savage
Here’s a pic taken near sundown yesterday just outside of Helena. With our new addition in our family, my schedule seems to be a bit wacky lately and I’m finding myself sneaking in my photos where I can get them. I seem to be becoming more of a nocturnal photographer this last week or two, which goes nicely with not sleeping:) I have also discovered my long neglected friend caffeine again and hopefully I’ll be able to trudge my way through some more blog postings.
Seriously though, life is good, spring is here, and I’m excited to see what this summer has in store for Montana. Hope everyone is getting out and enjoying our 70+ weather and getting some good pics!

The Montana 2010 Photography Workshops that I will be teaching are now posted under the Classes & Workshops section on my website at www.jasonsavagephotography.com. This year should be a blast as I will be hosting the workshops in some of my favorite locations around Montana. Last year we had some great folks on the workshops and some excellent photography. Thanks to all of last years students for making my job a real pleasure and look forward to seeing you out there this year! Here’s a few pics from last years workshops.

Reeder’s Alley. © Jason Savage
Here’s a shot of Reeders Alley from yesterday evening. It’s an area of Helena that still retains some of the Gold Rush history that founded and built Helena from the ground up. These buildings were created by Pennsylvania Stone Mason, Louis Reeder, during the 1870′s. Reeder came to Helena during the prospecting hey-day looking for oppurtunity and began purchasing land around the gold camps. He soon began construcuction on some of these now historic buildings that now provide a window to Montana’s Gold Rush.
If your visiting Helena, it’s worth checking out.

Was in town this weekend for the Helena Fall Art Walk. I was hosting potter, Joe Crowley, who in my opinion is one of the best around and who is currently making his mark in the art world. We had a good turnout at the Gallery and a fun night. Lots of folks looking to warm up out from the cold as it was a frigid night in town. Thanks to everyone who showed up.
If you’re in Helena, you can view Joe’s work at Al Swanson’s Gallery or the Holter Museum of Art.

History Fair. © Jason Savage
Downtown Helena was buzzing this weekend with it’s first annual History Fair which featured historic re-enactments,period actors and live demonstrations from Dutch Oven Cooking to Native American Drummers.
Coincidentally this year’s festival happened to fall on the same day as the Historic Helena Photography Workshop I was teaching, so we decided to include it in our schedule. Not a bad time, and I suspect it was a hit as downtown was packed.
Here’s a few pics from the workshop.

Well yet again, another month has gone by without much posting. Time seems to be moving in some sort of weird hyperwarp speed lately. That’s quite all right though because the quicker we get to Spring & Summer, the happier it makes me.
We are shaking off yet another round of late season snow storms and today we had some big flakes falling in Helena all day long. It was some real heavy wet stuff and it will more than likely be gone by tomorrow.
This time of year in Montana seems to be when most photographers start stretching their legs, dusting off their gear, and heading out. I always make it a point to get out as much as possible during winter, but it seems more often than not, I am getting caught up in the office editing photos and preparing for the months to come. Oh well maybe next year. In any case, the return to shooting is much welcomed.

I went out last Sunday near Helena to test out some more landscape Photography with a new Canon 5dII I recently acquired. At 21 megapixels it’s resolution is impressive to say the least. It will be fun to see how it handles once we get in full swing this Spring.

So as the ice continues to thaw, our great Montana landscapes wake up to begin another trudge toward the warmer weather.
Next week, Snow Geese-Freezeout Lake.
